Our Weekend Travels

The Maine islands have treated us well the past few days. Thursday we headed to to the island of Vinalhaven, located 12 miles off the coast of Maine. The island is the largest island in Penobscot Bay and reachable by ferry and plane from nearby Rockland. There is a fishing community, which comprises a solid portion of the 1,200 or so winter residents and a significant summer population driven by tourists and Maine's weekend warriors. The Island Home, which carries our line, is a working fiber arts studio that offers local crafters raw materials and provides multi-generational learning experiences for crafters of all levels. Thankfully they are also a popular retail venue for New England artisans like us.

Friday we arrived on North Haven, a town with a small (but solid) year-round island community, which is also serviced by daily ferry service and air taxi from Rockland. Our trunk show at The North Haven Gift Shop was well attended and great fun.

Last night we arrived in Bar Harbor where we were proud to be featured in the Friends of Acadia Benefit Auction at The Asticou in Northeast Harbor. Friends of Acadia is a nonprofit membership organization, whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote stewardship of the outstanding natural beauty, ecological vitality, and distinctive cultural resources of Acadia National Park and surrounding communities for the inspiration and enjoyment of current and future generations.
The area is well known for its summer residents, the dramatic cliffs of Acadia National Park, beautiful harbor with spectacular yachts, and famous residents including Martha Stewart.

***NEW*** Cuff Links

We just redesigned the cuff links and they are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s!

They are 16mm in diameter and you can choose two different images!  They make great gifts for groomsmen gifts!

We decided to cast them in bronze as well since there doesn't seem to be many bronze cuff links available.  Bronze is the choice metal on watercraft since it doesn't rust but rather patinas beautifully.  And of course, they look very boaty!

We are super excited about this latest edition to our collection!

Well here is the reason I've not been on my blog! What a cutie...Riley, age 7 months, Border Terrier/Corgie mix. We found this little sweetheart at Journey Animal Rescue in Stow, Maine. He was transported from Mississippi after being left at a temporary shelter. They nursed him back to health and the good folks in Stow took him in to find him a good home. Luckily, we found him on the internet and adopted him. He comes to the studio to work with us although the walk there is still a little bit scary to him. He is LOVE!

Route 1 travels

Anyone who has had the great fortune of taking Route 1 up the coast of Maine will tell you it is a spectacular drive. I set out on the road to sign up new accounts along the coast and began my travels on Route 1 in Brunswick. Made it all the way to Port Clyde which is just the most quintessential Maine village on the ocean...really, worth the trouble getting there not that the drive there isn't just a wonderful as the little town itself.
So after a couple cups of coffee I'm ready to continue North on Route 1 on yet another sunny Maine day...and hope to get as far as Searsport. Going to check out the Penobscot Maritime Museum.
Not a bad job I have, really. Lunch on the wharf and accounts along the coast of Maine. Oh, and making beautiful jewelry with special meaning.

Lunch

Sometimes its just the little things in life that make us most happy.  Case in point:  lunch today on the docks.  Yup, I packed a lunch and walked around the corner from my studio to plop myself down oceanside.  Okay, I had to dodge a few seagulls but how many can say they have such a delightful spot to dine at work?
We're growing like crazy and its been busy in the studio.  Many of our wholesale customers have called upon receiving their shipment to order more!  Thankfully, we're on top of things and able to handle it.
